Are you caught in a cycle of job hopping? When you start a new job, do you feel motivated for a while, only to find that once the initial excitement fades, the flaws of the workplace or management start to bother you, and you find yourself looking for a job again? Are you tired of experiencing the same things over and over? You can break this vicious cycle. Start by exploring these two important areas:
1️⃣The Right Job: When you start a new role, you might be happy for a while due to reasons like learning new things, making new connections, or getting a better salary. However, if you don't enjoy the work itself, you will start feeling dissatisfied after some time because these are extrinsic motivations and do not provide a lasting sense of fulfillment. When you work at a job you love, the work itself becomes a reward and creates lasting intrinsic motivation.
Furthermore, research shows that when you do the work you love, your productivity and creativity increase, leading to high performance and success. This is because there is a direct relationship between doing what you love and the strength derived from your skills, character traits, and core values. For these reasons, the work you love is the right job for you.
2️⃣The Right Work Environment: The work environment that enables you to be at your best—and thus perform at your highest level—is the right work environment for you. You can use the following criteria when evaluating this:
Location: Do you prefer working in an office, from home, or in a hybrid setup?
Pace: Are you more comfortable in a fast-paced environment or a slower one?
Working Hours: Do you want fixed working hours or flexible ones that you can determine yourself?
Size: Are small-scale start-ups with rapid change more appealing to you, or large corporate companies with high job security and clearly defined roles and responsibilities?
Finally, before deciding to work at a company, you must ensure that the organization's values align with your personal values. A company's values answer the questions, "How do we do things, and how do we treat each other?" The more your personal values overlap with the organization's values, the longer-lasting your relationship with that organization will be. This way, you can move forward in your career with more secure steps and increase your career success.
Before you start looking for your next job, how about taking the time to pause and reflect on these matters to build a conscious career path?
